Kobba Hoppers 2011 - part IV

Part IV - Party, day 2

"Lars, people are staring at us." - "Relax Sammy, it's just the mescaline."

I don't know why the hell this happened. Honestly. What the fuck...

Fly me to the moon
Let me sing among those stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars

In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby kiss me

BTW, we just hate people who burn rubber at parties. Dickheads.

As usual, was a great party. Thanks!

Paskaa Tuutin täydeltä?

Finally got the engine off the frame. That fucker is quite heavy (80 - 90 kilos) and fitted to the frame really tightly. Not a easiest job to do by yourself, without any mechanical help either...

                                          Now things get really interesting...

Everything ok this far, no need for boooooring. Only new rings and honing. It would be too easy now to change the cam and make this baby 850cc. Shoud I...?

Cam chain adjustment rollers are supposed to be soft. Maybe 21 years soaking in oil is not good for the rubber.

Original -79 CB ready for museum vehicle inspection. (except pipes) Hmm, what to do? To rape or not to rape, that is the question... Any ideas?

Look mom, I has made a poo-scoop!

Shovelhead shocks and relocated lower mounts.

Dual-plugging

Why yes, that is a very rare rear XLR head that's going under the knife.

Setting up the plug angle, using the original as a guide. The original degree angle needed to be modified to fit the new plugs without notching/splitting/removing the rocker boxes. It's not much of a variation from perfect symmetry, just enough to clear the rocker box.

The plug holes therefore do not mirror each other exactly, but the difference is minimal.

So there ya go. One note though; seems the cast relative to the head bolt holes varies slightly from head to head, so in this case the XLR rear head gave pretty much the same amount of thread in the new plug hole as in the old one. However, the front head did not. So as not to risk the threads giving up a spacer was placed on top of the threads, silver soldered in place, and threads tapped into it from the inside. That ought to hold it.

Naturally one thing leads to another and now, because of the taller Dytch cylinders, the top rail of the frame will need to be tweaked a bit to get this thing in and out in the future.

Oh yeah, and if anybody has a set of solid mount dogbone risers (taller than the usual 4", and not the ugly square kind you can get from the catalogues), hit me up with pics and price; wastarantalate@gmail.com

Chill out!

So Mane called and asked if I wanted to tag along to Helsinki for the MP12 motorcycle expo. Seeing as the same weekend also included the Photo Harvest (bike themed photo show) and Winter Chill Out Party, I figured why not. Had I known I'd be spending more time outside in -22C to -27C degrees than looking at bikes I might have stayed home.

Nomen est omen.

As we arrived at the photo show Flink was just getting ready to head home.
In a sidecar Ural.
In minus twenty-something degrees.
Hard-core. Or just nuts.

Photo Harvest exhibition.

Chocolate cake NOM NOM NOM

Zzzzz....

So Mane, we should be on our way to the expo to pick up the bikes.
What gives?

Several (gloveless) hours, too many cigarettes, and many phonecalls later..

By the way, you try finding a battery for a VW transporter on a Sunday evening in Helsinki.
It ain't easy.
Where is everybody?

Mane will probably have pics from both the expos up at some point.
Apart from the cold, it was a good trip with good people.

Special thanks to Tane for the use of his car and Mala for the use of his tools.
